Did anybody watch the Olympic opening ceremony? Did you happen to catch the little girl in the red dress "singing". She had an angelic voice and was cute as a button. That was the point. The Chinese now admit to decieving the public. The little 9 year-old girl you saw singing wasn't singing at all. Turns out the real singer is a 7 year-old girl that won a competition to perform the anthem but was denied at the last minute. A member of the Chinese government said she shouldn't be seen because of her BUCK TEETH. That's right, a LITTLE girl wasn't allowed to sing because of her LOOKS! A little girl! An innocent adorable little girl who the audience would have been just as smitten by.

Thoughts anyone?

Agreed, the girl whose voice was used was adorable. Think of the benefit her performing would have had on children around the world who look like she does.

But China went for the image of perfection instead of joy and acceptance of her own children.

Unfortunately, image is increasingly the determining factor in what is perceived as reality ... at the expense of the truth. Society wants to believe the lie isn't a lie.

It's not like we would have cared either way. Most people from China are very ugly, so it wouldn't have mattered if they used the "buck toothed" little girl or not.

Now that China has pulled that little stunt, we should pull one of our own...(BRING HER HERE TO SING!`)

Sad to say but I think China is just following the new global standard that America has helped to create. Just look at anything American; its flashy, good-looking, easy to get, fun, addictive or its buried underneath the cloud of these illusions and falsely perceived images. Just like in America and most other industrialized nations China is just giving the people what they want; flashy charm without any of the horrible reality that comes with it. We Americans better start waking up and thinking for ourselves or we will end up just like them: controled, abused and BS'd to the point of absurdity, we already see what they're willing to put on for the world.

If you want my opinion I think having the Olympic Games in China is comparable to have a baby shower at an abortion clynic: the two just dont mix well.

From the Washington Post

"An International Olympic Committee official on Wednesday defended the last-minute decision to pull a 7-year-old singer out of the Opening Ceremonies last Friday in favor of a cuter 9-year-old, who lip-synched a song sung by the girl deemed not cute enough..."

"...Gilbert Felli, the IOC's director of the Olympic Games, compared the choice to that a coach makes when he bumps a rower out of a four-man boat in favor of a stronger competitor."

Hmmmm...but the coach doesn't send in a better looking athlete and still have the one he bumped continue to row from the locker room!

Mr Felli would make an excellent American politician!! Typical socialist attitude...symbolism over substance!

They also faked some of t he opening fireworks sequences!!

I would like to agree with Ying Yang Man.

Most American movies have young, good looking actors for heros and heroines. Much of TV is glib and superficial.

Communist China is supposed to be free of all that, though.

There was some suspicion that female Chinese gymnasts were actually only seven to nine years old, posing as sixteen. My wife and I saw a couple of them that looked like they were in that age range. It brought back memories of the old USSR and women in the shotput etc with very furry upper lips. The judging was dodgy then too. It was bizarre this year too.
