By now you may have heard about Sarah Palin's teen daughter. The Republican VP hopeful revealed that her 17 year-old is pregnant. 5 months along. And John McCain's camp says they knew about the pregnancy before announcing Palin as their VP pick.
Critics say it's the latest "bombshell" to rock the RNC.  What do you think? Is news about Palin's pregnant daughter private and none of our business? Should media just leave it alone? Or has Palin opened herself up to insult and injury because she made it public?
How do you think it'll play out politically? Will it help or hurt the Republican Party's chances of winning the election?
Thanks, as always for your thoughts!

The lives of candidates children should remain private and for the press to make such a big deal about this lacks a lot of class. If this had been the child of a Democratic candidate, you would hear nothing from the media. Remember during the Clinton Administration how Chelsea was "hands off?" Why is the same respect not given to the children of Republican candidates. The press is very shameful on this one and should leave all children out of the political vitriol.

Who cares? This has nothing at all to do with whether she would be a good VP or not. Why are you focusing on this lascivious tidbit instead of the ongoing investigation into a possible abuse of power? That is something that does show what kind of an executive she might be.

Mc(CAIN) and (PA)l(IN) 2008!!! The Republicans could choose the Devil for President and still win the election... Seems that Money can buy anything! Go BIG BUSINESS!!!

I am not really a dooms day person, but it is kind of funny that the world is set to end in 2012 at the end of mc (CAIN) and (PA)l(IN) rein... Irony, we shall have to wait and see...

I think the media sometimes forgets about common decency and right to privacy when a few ratings points might be at stake.

Crossover is right about the abuse of power allegations being a more important topic when talking about a person who could be a heartbeat (or lack thereof) away from the Oval Office.

Or better yet, how about looking into abuse of power locally? Pretending there's no problem only enables the abuse of power.

Breaking a story would seem a lot more professional than playing the role of one of the animals in the story about the Little Red Hen ... nobody wants to help when trying to get something done ... but everyone wants a piece when it all comes out.

Palins 17 yr old daughter being pregnant doesn't concern me, nor do I really care. There comes a point in a persons (teens)life where they begin to make choices of their own and from time to to time wind up in a mess. My concer is the issues of what is happening in this country and are the people put before us to choose from have the educated senseto get us on track. So far I am impressed with Pailins accomplishments as a public offical. I am still doing my homework on this gal. As for the pregnancy matter with her daughter, they need to leave it alone. Bristol made that choice not her mother. She had a good time and got bit. It is a family matter and the media needs to drop it as well as the looney evangelicles and religious goof balls running around this country....On to what reall matters most. Our national security, economy etc etc

I say its private and people should mind theor own business, but since it is now a national topic I would say it only a matter of how the national media 'spins' it. In Gov. Palin's favor they could say that she can identify even more with American families as she has dealt with real life situations head-on. Or, the media could spin her into a horrible mother that doesn't care about her children. Its not the first time in history a 17 year old has became pregnant, or the last and that will only be a 'crime' if people are told to see it that way. Only time will tell.

I have a feeling the buzz around this "story" will fade by the end of the week. Still, major networks filled their newscasts with the topic, focusing solely on Palin's teen daughter instead of digging deeper about who Palin is. Is it because people in this country are drawn to the drama, the gossip? Someone brought up ratings. If people aren't interested, then why watch?

Let's change gears...
What do you think of McCain VP pick, Sarah Palin? The good, the bad...
and glad someone brought it up. What do you think about this ethics inquiry? Was there abuse of power? Did Palin use her power to get a state commissioner fired for refusing to dismiss her ex-brother-in-law from the state police?
She's denied any wrongdoing, but was it an error in judgement for McCain when it came to picking her while she's in the middle of a being investigated?

And another question...what do you think of this interview with CNN's Campbell Brown?

Privacy...

~L~O~L~ Thats a fading illusion. The Bush Administration can spy on anyone anywhere with roaming wiretaps or by reading your email or listening to your phone calls, without due process, in order to find the "terrorists".

Looking for terrorists is one thing but it doesn't stop there! Why have perfectly decent people ended up on their "threat" list? Why have there been thousands of people spied upon that where not even connected to terrorism? Why was the military taking inventory of anti-war supporter license plates? It's because there are secondary perks to be gained, kill two birds with one stone so to speak. There is due process of the law for a reason, isn't it ironic that the most secretive and questionable administration fought tooth and nail to skirt the law?

----------------------------------------

As for Palin and abuse of power... Well there are very few people throughout history that have wielded their power with honor and integrity. When people flex their muscle there is always a reason! Follow the money trail you will find your reason...

It's probably buried in oil somewhere...

It was me that brought up ratings ... and I change the channel when there's a story I feel to be beneath the profession. In fact, don't take this the wrong way because I tried watching that video out of respect for you, I gave up after three minutes because there was no value in that interview (which answers the question you raise regarding it).
It's interesting that you do not address Gov. Palin by her elected title.

Changing gears ...
1. I think it was a brillant choice. It counters the whole 'young family' aspect of Barack Obama, it throws Sen. Clinton off from focusing on rebuilding the party she belongs to.
2. Abuse of power should always be addressed. It boggles me as to why nobody here is willing to uncover abuse of power in Utah even when proof is offered. Gov. Palin didn't openly make false statements/commit perjury to get malicious criminal charges filed against a person she knew to be innocent (as happened here).
How do we know if there was or was not abuse? That's for the investigation to disclose. Isn't that report expected the week before the election? Should make things interesting.
3. Gov. Palin used her power to get that person fired for alleged mismanagement ... not refusing to fire a person she has a grudge against.
4. No, it was not an error in judgement. He had to do something to get the focus on him in a campaign that is Obama's to lose. Choosing Gov. Palin has obviously accomplished that goal.

The Democrat's attack machine will have a field day with this, and that will backfire on them.

I thought Campbell Brown's attempted interview lacked professionalism. She was so anxious to make a teenager's poor judgment a political talking point, she totally ignored that the fellow she was interrogating [I don't recall his name] was trying to politely advise that it was not a proper discussion point. Obama had already said as much, displaying a considerable degree of class. I do not agree with his politics, but Obama's comportment throughout this election season has been one of a consumate gentleman. Campbell Brown could learn a few points of professional jounralism and social grace. Pressing the point only made her appear more absurd than usual.

What I think is important is this: is Palin's daughter's concuct partly the effect of one more career woman who left a minor child to her own devices in order to follow her personal ambitions?

As more and more women opt to abandon the traditional role of mother and housewife, is Mrs Palin a good role model for the rising generation. It's not so bad if there is a husband who is willing to sacrifice his own career and traditional role in order to support his wife's untraditional course, as long as there is someone left to hold the fort at home. Nevertheless there needs to be some throrough studies on the effect of role reversals on the stability of marriages.

Campell Brown stooped to the level of Jerry Springer. I lost alot of respect for her as a reporter when I watched this badgering fiasco.
But, it as to be expected from her sooner or later after all she does work for the Obama channel.

Gov. Palin is a very gifted speaker. The only times it seems she sold herself short was when she played the good party/bad party card. Community organizers have real responsibilities. Such insults seemed beneath her. I would hate to see Gov. Palin continue to stoop to that level.

I took note at her stated commitment to families with special needs children. She said she would be there for those families.

It is interesting that a person who is alleged to have committed abuse of power infractions would be there to stand against abuse of power ... especially when the media here isn't willing to do that and allows disabled children to be harmed.

Gov. Palin's comment about the difference between a pit bull and a hockey Mom ... does that help explain why a parent would so vigorously protect their children from abuse of power? Why carrying potpourri and speaking gently might not always be the appropriate form of communication?

And media here won't give those stifled voices a chance.
