John McCain inches ahead of Barack Obama in the latest opinion poll. What does it mean? Some say the bounce was expected. After all, the RNC just wrapped up Thursday evening. The momentum is there. But could the increase be attributed to Sarah Palin?

Your thoughts?

Also, Gov. Palin's first interview with the media is with Charles Gibson. No clue on when it airs, but I'll definitely be watching. So far we've seen her speeches at the RNC, and she was certainly impressive. If you were interviewing her, what would you ask? Also, anyone looking forward to the debates?

If I were given the chance to ask Governor Palin a few questions I think that I‘d start with this:

Q: Governor, why have you requested an investigation of your own office by the Alaska Personal Board into abuse of power issues, which has undermined the investigation of the Alaska Joint Legislative Council and caused many of your staff to stop cooperating with the special investigator, Steve Branchflower?

At this point I would expect the Governor to give the explanation that her lawyer gave that basically cites concerns about jurisdiction and following the law, as the Alaska legislature wrote it, concerning ethics probes. I would then follow up with this:

Q: Why, if your sole concern is seeing that the law is being followed, did you and your staff cooperate fully with the Joint Legislative Council’s investigation for five weeks before you raised these concerns?

Perhaps its is no coincidence that the night of her speech drew a larger television audience than the night of Obama's speech. As it is with both parties in play with innovative teams, just for demographics, this is the most fascinating presidential election season ever. I pity Ralph Nader [who?]. The only thing he can do to upstage either of the major parties is to select a horse as his running mate.

Of course, it's because of Gov. Palin. She's a vibrant, dynamic woman who has been thrust into our nation's political reality.

I'd ask why she supported the 'bridge to nowhere' until the state's portion of the project increased.

I'd ask why not just complete the ethics probe already happening so voters can make an informed decision insteadof not having all the facts that would have been availeable had the first investigation been allowed to be completed on schedule.

Thank goodness President Gerald Ford didn't feel a need to pull such shenanigans ... he willingly went in front of Congress to answer their questions regarding his pardoning ... not exhoneration ... of President Nixon.

Now, there was a situation for the history books ... not this racial/gender circus going on. Ford's attainment of the Oval Office proved that our nation's Constitution works. He never aspired to the Presidency; he knew better. But, he was willing to accept the responsibility asked of him - the one laid out in the Constitution. And he did so without one vote being cast for him to take that oath.

The first African American Presidential candidate and the first Republican female VP candidate are merely footnotes in the long run ... as has become of Geraldine Ferraro.

Getting back to the topic ... metaphorical penny bet says she or the campaign plays the gender card as soon as Gibson asks the tough questions backed with documentation.

Nineveh,

LaVar Christensen was at the convention. Maybe you could ask for a first hand perspective on the speech. I'd be interested in hearing, a week later, what the feelings currently are.

There are lulls in any campaign ... Sen. McCain certainly had his in the primaries.

I don't think it is so much a matter of losing momentum as seeing where they can go from here. If anyting, this seems to be the time for the prospective VPs to let themselves become known.

I appreciate Sen. Biden's not playing it safe and going out on his own to Gov. Palin's reticence to face the media. Is Senator McCain so unappealing that he needs a sidekick? Could Sen. Biden become a 'loose cannon'?

I appreciate Gov. Palin's freshness to Sen. Biden's being an 'insider'.

However, that she brought up putting the governor's jet on eBay, Gov. Palin might have wanted to mention that it didn't sell ... full disclosure and all. It still could have made the point she wanted to ... but without leaving her open to scrutiny.

Well, seeings how there are many people that think that the convention is going to "shake up" the election this time, unlike any have in the past, I'd like to ask why have there not been any local political officials having a poll presented?

Did someone do a hostile takeover? Who is running foe Secretary of State? Secretary of Defense? Secretary of Treasury? ect. ect.? Why didn't they get a commercial? I want to see who is running for Cabinet for the "I'll make sure you get paid in full for your work before someone makes up a crime that was committed" position.

I urge all of you to arm yourselves with facts and not all the B.S. and propaganda that's been floating around.

I think the debates are so overly scripted only the thickest of campaign retoric will escape the political angst. I sincerely doubt I would be let near any microphone that would allow any free thinking to escape to the people or national press. I would start however with an ice-breaker asking what the long term goals would be of the republican energy policy and question if any plans are in effect for John McCains gasoline free automobiles.

Next would come the human/civil rights questions concerning federally and Congressionally approved 'civilian labor' camps as well as what will happen with the Patriot Act as well as other Bush administration laws and legislations regarding the 'war on terror'.

The debates should be done differently this year. A town hall debate. Real people asking real questions. I'm looking forward to Charlie Gibson's interview with Sarah Palin tonight. Many in our industry say it will be a defining moment in journalism. Will he ask the tough questions? We're all counting on you Charlie. Stay tuned...

If she plays the gender or victim card with him, she loses credibility.

Charles Gibson knows how to word the 'tough questions' without being cruel or attacking the person he interviews.

We'll see what the American people want come November...
I think the focus will shift now. With the financial market in MAJOR turmoil, people will begin to analyze the candidates differently. Which candidate is best fit to get us out of this MESS!!!??? It is costing TAXPAYERS BILLIONS with all the government bailouts!!!!! And not to mention, our economy...
Thoughts?
