You spend your life working, sleeping, eating...and then come all the other things in between that you try to make time for. Family, friends, vacations, exploring the world...the important things in life if you ask me. It got me thinking, does life ever get so monotonous that you think you're stuck in a rut? And is just that...a thought? a temporary negative outlook on life?

I found a neat article online...it's a simple read. It's an article by Catherine Pratt...."5 signs that you may be stuck in a rut." Read over them and let me know if any of them apply to you, and if so...what do you do if you're stuck in a rut?

I cut and paste portions of the article...

"Whenever we get stuck in a rut or when we're off on the wrong path completely, the universe will using various signs to point this out to you.

Here's 5 signs that you may need to make some life changes:

1. Absolutely everything is harder than it should be. Nothing is easy.
There are constant delays, unexpected problems, etc. Every thing you try to do is a monumental effort..

2. You feel like you’re constantly ending up in the same situation
You try so hard to change things yet the more you try, the more things stay the same. Here’s an example. I hated my job and the people I worked with. So, I thought the answer was to find another job. Within a year, I realized I was in exactly the same position just with a different employer. Jumping to a new job hadn’t been the solution at all.

3. You lack joy, you’re tired, you lack enthusiasm
Deep down you know something isn’t right. Your heart tells you that you’re not in the right place and you’re not going in the right direction.

4. You worry about everything
You don’t trust things to go right and really with your experiences lately, why should you? You don’t have confidence in your decisions and you’ve lost touch with your inner self.

5. Life just feels like it is a constant struggle
Physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally you are drained. You just go through the motions just to make it through the day. You just don’t know what to do anymore. "

Any thoughts?

I think that life isn't always going to be peaches and sunshine... Disease, Violence, Pain, and the like are all a very real part of life. I think ending up in a rut from time to time lets you know that your still alive...

The secret isn't trying to avoid the rut all together it's simply recognizing why you are there and then getting out! Live is about moving forward and you can't move on towards you destination until you know where you are at currently at...

On another note... The struggles in life strengthen our souls. It's like a Sword being forged in the fire... Without the heat you can't pound out the impurities from the steel. The trials of life strengthen the steel of our souls into sharp gleaming blades of Truth, Honor, Justice, Wisdom, Compassion, Love and Light so that we may cut through the Ignorance, injustice and darkness in this world!

Thats my two yen anyway...

I agree with Akiame 100%. You have to go through peaks and valleys to appreicate what you do have, and to work toward what you want and don't have.

Nineveh:
are you implying that some of us are not to bright when you say it's a simple read?

all those things apply to me including sickness...lol!`

A co-worker of mine was telling me about this round-about in Europe that she had got caught in while traveling, like 10 lanes in a circle and she was on an inner lane going around and around looking to her other lane of travelers doing the same not sure how to move over and across and eventually out, they all were just going around and around...lol!`

(Muppet head!*`(;)

I still believe in friendship and open doors to get out of a rut, I can't do everything by myself, this last week has been a perfect example

I think those of Ms. Pratt are very simplistic views that don't draw in enough information.

We don't live in a Stepford world where the illusion becomes reality. Strife is part of living. Without feeling pain at some point, how can someone recognize joy and strength?

Thanks for the article, Nineveh. I think I'm DEFINITELY stuck in a rut. Did you say there's a longer version of this somewhere?

Maybe it's just that I've seen so much of what the past 50 years has had to offer; good and bad. To me, if someone is in a 'rut' it's because their focus is too narrow; they seem to appear 'limited'.

Sometimes they put themselves there; sometimes it is chosen for them.

Whether any one of us is in a 'rut' or not, we should always strive to learn the available lessons and move forward.

I had a fused wrist forover a decade due to a doctor's mistake. I didn't let it get me in a 'rut'. I found a way to utilize my circumstances.

I also kept looking forward. Eventually there was a prosthetic wrist developed(now there is more than one) so wrists wouldn't have to be fused any more.

I was the first person in Utah to have a complete fusion taken down for an artifical joint like this. There were significant risks. It was worth considering all the possibilities. I have never regretted not taking the safe path.

I apply that same conviction in many aspects of my life. Occassionally losing hope and energy are a natural part of the process. When one stay there is when it becomes a 'rut'.

pisssedoff702 your question, as to the implied implication cracked me up imediately and out loud. Then I began to examine more deeply what may have been your reason for implying that she thinks we are dumb.

It could of been just a funny remark except that most funny remarks can be as sincere as they are funny. My question is are you stuck in a rut in wich your are "pissedoff" and ready to pounce, lol and in fun and respect.

Another post you commented on, I think it had to do with identity theft and if I remember correct you might have been a victim, I could have the exact topic wrong yet I thought at the time it certainly explains being "pissedoff702"

As for me I have noticed that I can get into a perceived sluggish period from time to time. The longer I live the more I learn to know that it is usualy only a temporary thing.

I notice that for other some folks the rut seems to be one thing after another or just one long stream of the same old whatever ails the soul.

I think it mostly comes from within... Sooo 702 how long have you been pissedoff, care to elaborate?

Consider the century you live in. Consider the boundaries of your knowledge. Consider the extent to which this world can be explored.

Throughout the vast history of homosapiens the boundaries have been about 20 miles in any direction. The boundaries of knowledge were limited to what one might attain through observation and elderly instruction. The century was irrelevant without clocks and calenders to measure them. Most of the ruts in America are inside of the head. You can log in and visit places most of our ancestors never dreamed of. From the bottom of the oceans to the far reaches of our Universe. The problem is bound inside of your mind. But so is the solution.

Skooby, Brilliant! What is awe enspiring about examining past centuries is the contrast with present day and usig that to contrive an image of future centuries?

I cannot even fathom the possibilities. I Hope we dont blow ourselfs up or implode ourselfs in the process.

"The problems and solutions are bound inside our heads" [paraphrase] brilliant straight to point and so true. Perfectly said nice!

Imagine to your self,,, well I dont think we can really fully grasp this concept but try if you might
Try to Imagine the cognitive calculations of a football player running down the feild to catch a ball. Imagine how much mental cognitive skill is required to run at the exact speed needed and leap at the right moment[micro second really] every single muscle in the body working in unisom[ hundreds and maybe thousands of differant nerological signals zapping a hundred or thousand or more directions at once.

If your are not imagining this phenomenon to a point of making your self completly lost in comprehension of it all, you are not imagining hard enough.

I had an empoyer once, in eight yaers of employment for one man, the one thing he said to me more than any other statement "ITS ALL IN YOUR HEAD" this particular employer said this one simple thing to me more than any other thing he ever said. It use to drive me nuts because he was always pointing out my short comings when he said "ITS ALL IN YOUR HEAD". I thought if I heard that phrase one more time I might not survive. If he said it once he said it 600 million times. That stetement drove me freaking crazy!
