Decisions, decisions. I'm wondering what you think about two multi-million dollar propositions that will be on the ballot in November. Prop 1 & 2. Prop 1 is a 19.6 million dollar bond for the Tracy Aviary. If passed, the Aviary would get 13.5 right away. According to the campaign manager of prop 1, the last major renovation was in 1970. The aviary says they have leaky roofs and mechanical problems that need fixing.

Prop 2 "Renew the Zoo" (we've all seen the billboards), is asking the state for 33 million dollars. If passed, the Hogle Zoo says the money would be used to help create better homes for the animals and perhaps brings an arctic exhibit and an Africian savannah to the zoo (which I have to admit would be pretty darn cool for the kids).

BUT...how much will it cost taxpayes if these bonds pass. Here's the breakdown. Prop 1, according to County Mayor Peter Caroon would add "$2.50 to the annual property taxbill on a $235,000 home for 15 years. Prop 2 would raise property taxes by $4 a year for the next 20 years on a $250,000 home."

The Utah tax payer's associations thinks (in short) that both bonds are poor use of tax money. What do you think? Time to chime in!

Since Humans are destroying the natural environment where these animals live in and 1 out of two species of animal populations are in decline I think we have a responsibility to give them a place to live... So Yes.

BUT

I don't think taxes should be raised...

So where to get the extra money?

Uncle Sam takes %20+ out of my wages every pay day, where is all of that money going?

I think most governmental officials are WAY OVERPAID considering they can't solve any of the worlds REAL problems and they sit around debating small issues like baning cigarette smoking while allowing industrial air pollution... They fry small fish and get paid big bucks to do it!

How many times over minimum wage are their salaries anyway? Pay for the zoos out of that! They want the poor guy to pay for everything and squeeze a little bit more out of him but they continue to rake in the dough...

They already take %20+ off the top, what are they doing with all that money?

Both are a good use of taxpayers money. Animals need to be cared for too.

Here's an idea: stop paying for government vehicles. When I travel for work, I have to pay my own gas, my own car, my own insurance. Why, just because you work in a specific government job should you get that paid for too?? I could be wrong here but I think even police officers have to pay for their own motorcycles if they want one.

I think it depends on where the extra revenue and profits are going grom taxpayer investments. What percentage of taxpayer investments are profitable, and where does the extra revenue and profits go?

Prop 1 makes more sense than Prop 2.

They already have the zoo tax, but we all know the zoo takes everything for themselves and doesn't leave money for other worthy organizations ... the Aquarium comes to mind.

The zoo has received plenty of money for some major upgrades, rennovations and new projects.

Perhaps they should have used that money a little wiser. They could easily have not built 'cadillac' facilities and then cried poverty to get more money. Shouldn't a rennovation of the giraffe house been more important than the merry-go-round?

The aviary lost it's accredidation because of the condition of the facilities there. Getting it back should be the priority ... not letting the zoo spend our money as if they've been given a blank check.

I can think of better use of the money than housing wild animals. Give it to education.

Zoo no Aviary yes.
Money to education yes but not till we get rid of half the administrators and the people on the school board there the ones sucking up the funds.
Then we can actually see what is really needed.

With elements like decreases in moral and recreation, some residents of the area are in need of those types facilities being improved, however there are not many people that realize that there is money set aside for that.

Improving recreational areas in a city, county, or state, improves morale of the people that visit and use the area, thus making it more money in the long run, that gives them other choices in what else they can improve.

I say yes to both, because of location.

Improving both, makes for a happy customer and community. They deserve to be happier. You have t realize also that the improvements of those areas also increases the other elements that they need in communities too, like raising the standard of housing and standard of living along side them.

Improving parks and wildlife areas, creates a trend into other avenues, that we need to see in our communities. Standard of living increases and standard of housing increases are directly linked to those two elements occurring, if everyone knew that they would say yes to them both.
