An arson arrest and a suicide at the police station. Not your typical news day when it comes to the latter. Remember all the arson fires that have been happening in the River Project area in Ogden? Police have arrested a woman they say is responsible for four of the fires. 47 year-old Marrianne Mancuso was booked into the Weber County Jail on 4 counts of arson. There have been 10 fires at 7 vacant homes in the past three weeks. Cops say she set fire to two vacant homes, one of which she set fire to three times. Police say Mancuso lived in the area and was often times at the scene of the fires. Mancuso's motive according to detectives: to speed up the River Project. There are still five arson fires under investigation. More info to come...

Any thoughts on the arson story?

Now to this next "story", which I'd like for you to share your thoughts on. Typically, news organizations don't cover suicides unless they are public figures. Today a 71 year-old man walked into the Ogden Police station and shot and killed himself in the bathroom stall. Chris Esquibel was under investigation for allegedly sexually assaulting a family member. He left a suicide note behind, but did not confess to the alleged crime. According to police, family members knew of his plan to kill himself. The suicide happened at a police station. Unusual? Very. Another question. How did he get the gun inside. 1. It's a public restroom. 2. he had a concealed weapons permit

My question is: do you think the suicide deserved news coverage?

holy shishkabob ... yes

It reminds me of when I was sitting in club six , and the female owner of the place walked in and shot her self in the head with a 25.
Right in the head ... the paramedics said she was dead, but her body was still funtioning.... Breathing ....???

They cleaned the blood up and my band played that night.

Arson ... strange story, indeed. The question will be why she did this. Was she just so frustrated that she felt she had exhausted all avenues dealing with bureaucracy?

Suicide ... that it happened in a government building makes it at least worth mentioning. What I don't understand is why family members didn't alert anyone (that we know of).

I think all these tragic news events should be talked about... to a minimal degree... I think the alternaitive is akin to sweeping it under the rug... Never a good idea.

MKtavish are you serious that the band played on... That is freaking morbid and disrespectful... Did you say it was your own band or something like that.

Any time someone dies the entire night should be over...

Yes, I think the suicide deserved news coverage only because someone shooting their self at a police station certainly doesn't happen every day. Any way you look at it, it's tragic.

Now, for the woman who set the fires, I understand she said she was tired of the vacant houses in the neighborhood. I have a meth house across the street that has been condemned for a year now, and I wish to God it would burn down. Maybe the mortgage company that owns it would finally do something with the property, rather than letting the grass grow waist high, allowing it to be vandalized, and diminishing the value of my property.

I don't know what kind of shape the properties this woman burned were in, but if all the slum lord owners who allow their properties to go to hell lost them to a convenient fire, maybe they'd start to think twice about just letting them sit there to rot and decrease the property values of the neighbors who have to live by them.

Your newly instated Salt Lake City yard crew enforcers hard at work I see. When I asked the City who was responsible for the dangerous public sidewalks they said they have a policy in place but it isn't enforced unless someone complains. And on a snowed over sidewalk the property owner is legally responsible for injury, even though this is not his property. What are these new salaries going towards I've seen no change. If Government would step in and do it's job instead of kissing the Mormons butts, There are empty crack houses all over the valley. And they look like hell. I don't agree with her method but jeez, after a while things can get to you. Especially if it's costing you money. You might try complaining. Though it does tend to work very seldom. That's to remove that old crack house I mean. But then again that is another story compared to this.
I guess I'm just looking for the reason.
Suicide never surprizes me!
