What do think? Will people use it? UTA projects an estimated 14,000 will use the new Airport Trax Line everyday by 2030. Today UTA is breaking ground on the new line. It's part of the multi-billion dollar Frontlines 2015 project. The project includes a new trax line in Draper, West Jordan, West Valley, the Salt Lake International Airport, and Frontrunner South (Commuter line to Provo). In all, 70 miles in rail will be added to trax...

UTA says the entire project will be done by 2015, but won't commit to an exact date in regards to the airport line. They were hoping to get it done by 2012, but with these "tough economic times"...that could be hard to do.

The project (all the new rail lines, including the airport) costs 2.8 billion bucks. 80 percent of that money will come from you, the taxpayer.

Thoughts anyone? Is it worth the cost; will you use it? The question is: will UTA make room for all the luggage?

I have no doubt that people will use it and they should. The environment will benefit from these expansions. I think that UTA is gouging people on the fares though, especially considering the amount of taxpayer funding that they get. It seems you can't avoid being gouged these days.

ATXD... It is always the ignornt oppinions of so many people who think they are being gouged.

Everybody wants everything for free...

I will venture to guess that if you knew the payroll expenses just for the drivers you would get a clue. Now lets talk about payroll for mechanics and office personel.

And this does not come close to covering other things like fuel, tires, engines, transmissions, Brakes.
What about garages and mechanical repair equipment. That still does not even come close to the sum of all things, I am certain!

Everyting costs money and it always adds up to a lot more than anyone expects. you should be thankfull that you have such a fine, clean transit system... From what I have heard about transit systems in other states, Utah is pretty dang nice.

Go walk to work for a month or finance your own ride for a month and that measley $2 or whatever it is will look pretty good.

OHH I forgot to add... YIKES I hope they are thinking smart enough to make room for luggage or that could be a bad goof.

If there is no room for luggage, nobody will use it and THEN, There may be a need to gouge people... I hope someone gets the memo on this luggage thing.

Will I use it? Never. I enjoy driving too much.

Is it worth the cost? I guess socialized transportation isn't such a bad idea if it will take cars off the road so I can drive faster. ;)

Only in 20th century America will you hear someone complaining about a nice warm cushy ride for $2 while sipping on a cup of joe that costs $4

If you take a clear look at the attitudes of someone traveling ot work in 2008 and a person say in... 1938 What would you get?

I get a perspective of Americans [ myself included] being rediculously spoiled... like two year old brat type of spoiled

I would be interested to see a % breakdown of where our tax money goes.. who gets how much of "the wealth being spread around".

I know our Federal Taxes go to just the interest the U.S. Government owes to the Private Central Bank.. but local taxes.. I'd like to see an actual list breaking it down.

We could also use that list to compare our taxes now vs. a few years from now under the Obama administration.

You know that is quite right. I would have thought that it should be a matter of public record somewhere.

does anyone know about that?

Im sure its some where in PDB format {pretty damn boring}

ROFL IDHITIT ;) yES get that trax line done, so I can drive faster.

I recently quit taking UTA , because I decided to buy a truck and get my driver liscence back.
Its just such an essentialn tool for a Jack of All Trades.
But I still think ... well I could drop the tools and materials off one day ... then just take the bus to get my body out there the rest of the week.
But you guessed it , Im too dang lazy to go back to rideing the bus.

Anyways back to the subject.
The Trax Line to the Airport will be something this town has needed for a long time , and the lines to west Valley area are a no brainer.

And as long as Nineveh is there to crissen the new line. Ill ride it ;)

I think a light rail is a good thing environmentally, and financially for a region.

Because of geographical features of the Valley area, there is a higher probability that certain environmental damage could occur at a greater amount combined with coal power plants, and increased roadway usage.

As well it promotes the use of other interstate or international transportation at a cheaper price for the consumer, thus increasing the amount of jobs they have for the local community. Anyone ever heard of a train station with a diner?

I live and work in Weber so this will not benefit me. I will say that it is good to see that Utah is continuously improving its transportation infrastructure. Certainly wish I could take advantage. Stupid high-paying job keeping me in Ogden!

I guess we'll have to wait and see the impact it'll have on our state...
My next report on the aiport line will be in 2015, unless they get it done before then.
:-)
