The West Valley Yard Gestapo!!!

There is a insidious monster lurking in the darkness, patiently waiting to steal your property value right out from under your feet. It's not rampant Gang Crime in the community or bad location that makes your home less lustrous and desirable it is your neighbors shoddy landscaping techniques!

If your neighbors lawn is too: long, dry, full of garbage or weeds and you think that's draining the value out of your beautiful home? Have no fear the Lawn Patrol is here to protect your assets by ticketing those pesky unkept neighbors untill the comply with societies ever changing conformist fads...

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and Society has deemed that Ugly Landscaping is a drain on property value. Therefor Ugly people must be a drain on societies overall value? Maybe we should expand the yard nazis jurisdiction and let them start writing uggly people tickets for devaluing society by being too: fat, skinny, bald, harry, stinky, or zitty... Ticket people for those big: ears, noose, forehead, adams apple, and that huge booty because they are "eyesores" and devalue society's image as a whole. Maybe by ticketing the uggo's it would force them to get some cosmetic surgery and then they could become one of the beautiful ones, because Obviously everyone knows that beauty equals; good, correct, right, next to godliness right... Who ever knew of an pretty criminal?

When did Americans become so superficial and shallow? Or have we always been that way? There is a big difference between someone keeping a dangerous junk yard on their lawn as opposed to them not keeping the grass at, no more or no less than, 2.2 inches.  It seems to me there is a problem with societies values and not the physical thing society is determining the value of...

This is Without even mentioning the word "THEIR", as in meaning not yours! If YOU want to pay "their" $150,000 house payment then YOU can tell THEM how to keep "their" property! Their Liberty  to decide how to landscape their property yet Americans decide it's their liberty to choose how someone else lives and keeps their lawn. A civilized society should and would only override the liberty on another ONLY if it is causing harm to themselves or another, yet we now commonly override personal liberty based upon anothers personal preferences... Classic American Double Standards!!!

Maybe it's just West Vally's way of attaining extra tax revenue for lining their ever deepening pockets? If it where truly that their just helping out why not have the ticket writer get his lazy butt out of the car and grab a rake and get to work? Because the truth is COMPASSION is not the reason!!!

What ever the reasoning it just seems wrong to micromanage someone else's property because society has serous mental issue's with ugliness!!! In one breath Society says to embrace your physical shortcomings (Zits, Big Nose, Ears and Butt) then in the next breath attaches physical value to how something looks... You can't have your cake and eat it too! Pick one and stick with it... Either physical appearance is value or it is not, quit changing the rules like a kindergarten child playing tag on the playground... (The Slide is safe for them but when you touch it it is no longer safe...)

Society: Be consistent for once!!!

"When did Americans become so superficial and shallow?"

This is a Utah thing.

this kind of stuff used to be limited to Aynal Retentive H.O.A. subdivisions. Now with the economy failing, Cities are looking for every avenue to further "tax" the citizens.

An acquaintance of mine who lives in SLC drives a not so aesthetically pleasing truck and after just a few hours of returning home from work in his truck the city towed it away, claiming that it had been sitting in the roadway for 48hrs without moving and that it had been issued several warnings.. Yet they couldn't produce any copies of the warnings because it was a lie which ultimately cost him $300 to get his vehicle out of impound.

Expect more "Gestapo tactics" ahead, the economy is going to get a lot worse before it gets better!

This is what happens when you let zealots run your state and country.

I love this state. I love this state because people like the guy above draco likes to point out peoples speech flaws, and make a mockery of the message they are trying to spread.

And what is so sad about those people, is they are the ones who cry about peoples lawn problems, when major criminals run the street wreaking mayhem every day across the country.

Forget policing up criminals...it time to make unkempt lawns a feloney, and put home owners in prisons already overburdened with petty criminals just to make america a greener place to live.

I would like to be the guy that walks around with a ruler and measures the lawn. What an interesting job.

lol... You mean West Valley property value can actually get lower??? Just kidding, this actually isn't limited to Utah. I've seen this in other states and it's really the most frustrating thing to have to deal with.... Makes me not want to purchase my own property...It's like getting a ticket for being fat, having unkept hair, or wearing a stained t-shirt.....Man....I need a diet, a comb, and new clothes...

mysteriousmichaellee,

Read again numb nuts, I don't advocate landscaping yards. I say put visqueen and rock down. Spare me your blithering idiocy.

dyer2,

Gee, let's see. They try to legislate their dogma. Hypocritically judging others is what Christians are great at. Take gay marriage as an example. I wonder which party pushes to disallow it. Do you think it's the religious right or the liberal left??? HMMMMM!! You are asleep from the neck up.

i don't agree one bit with what they (the west valley police) are doing but the president has nothing to do with this. The city council passed that with no influence from the President. If you are going to blame someone for this decision blame the city council

I just think "Beauty" police is a bad Idea in general...

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I think it is a bad Idea to start writing tickets based upon "visually pleasing images"...

Not to mention the violation upon the individuals personal liberty because the social hoard likes pretty shiny trinkets....

Water Conservation VS Green Lawn Police...

Not my first post, nor my last post on the subject of the Landscape police... See the West Valley Yard Gestapo for more...

The problem is that these Community "police" are forcing residents to keep their lawns "Green" so that superficial property values don't decline. (As if it's the yards fault that property values are declining and not the pesky nosy neighbors, or the declining economy...) So whats more important; conserving water or keeping a personal putting green in front of your home?

I suppose these communities are the reason we all have to conserve water, so that they can keep their lawns green. I guess they haven't noticed the salt flats to the west, or the dry brush covered mountains to the east, or the desolate canyon lands to the south? Perhaps they haven't gotten the memo over their blackberry that we live in a desert ecosystem? I wonder have they ever heard of "Natural" landscaping? Well here is the official FYI: Hello Mc. Fly We live in a DESERT!!! If you want to live in a jungle, move to the rain forest!

Why should I have to conserve water so that the community yard police can force people to keep their lawns green? Green Energy and water conservation doesn't mean Conserve water so that you can keep your lawns green! When these communities let their lawns turn brown we will all know when we really have to conserve water. Until then why should I have to conserve water so these Landscape police can force their residents to keep their lawns green?

I like your piece on this one. I guess West Valley must have a new motto, "Mow or Owe"
