At first I agreed with the NAACP's stance on his comments. But the more the media lays it, the more I see it as he says. It was a terrible choice of words, but they were not at all designed to be in the context in which they are being touted. We have all at one time or another used words we'd like to have back. I rarely agree with this man, but today some harmless terms are blown all out of proportion. I a person refers to a friend as a "boyfriend / girlfriend", right away we see them as gay. Come on people, get a life.

I completely agree.....sure he could have used better words, but come on, these people are blowing this so out of proportion it's sick. I'm so tired of people who are so defensive, all they can see anymore in life are "potential negative" things that end up getting pathetically misconstrued.

This is a major problem, MEDIA.
I heard on the radio that he had said something controversial, the news made it sound really bad, and then I heard the actual comment…. I didn’t take it or hear it the way the media had portrayed it.
It’s like saying “dude” baby used to be a way of saying things.
I don’t feel at all that he was saying anything racial, I heard “ this baby is black” like saying this thing is black, when will the media get their head out.
Listen I don’t know a thing about this guy but after hearing both sides and the actual comment if anyone needs to apologize is the overzealous bad listening media.
As for the naacp, your making fools of yourselves open your ears and listen to the comment.

Would someone tell Genetta Williams and the NAACP it is time to let it go!!!!!

I agree! In my experience, it seems as though the NAACP is seeking attention and controversy and are WAAAAY too sensitive! I too listened and watched the "controversial" statement and didn't construe it at all as "racist". He wasn't talking about an infant at all! I've used the term "this baby" many times..and in no way was I referring to my children! Good grief! Get over yourselves! (no offense intended..just my opinion)

I personally agree with this, people need to grow up, people are so tunnell minded or visioned. There are many words or phrases out there that have more then one meaning, phrases like "thats gay" when you think something is dumb or the phrase "thats bad" meaning its cool. Then there are words that can be used for more then one subject, like the word "baby"it can be used when someone talks about something they hold close, they might consider calling it their "Baby", or like when i talk about my car its my "baby" or when someone talks about their project, family, team, girlfriend/boyfriend, etc. i hope you get the picture.

Now when you talk about the color "Black" there are more meanings to it then just a RACIAL slur or demeaning a African American.
the color means discontent; threatening; sullen; foreboding; to soil; to sully; evil; dark; so you see there are more meanings to the word black then a race, and we all need to start seeing it that way or we will never get past racism, it will be our future and not our past.

"SO GROW UP"

Now Im not saying that what buttars said was the best choice of words, and im not saying that im on his side, im just saying that we need to stop trying to beat issues out of a already dead horse, because were not going to get anything good out of it.

I THINK THE NAACP HAS SOO TWISTED HIS COMMENTS. I AGREE WITH THE ABOVE COMMENT. THEY ARE JUST TOO SENSITIVE. I FOR ONE AM SO TIRED OF THE "RACIST" CARD BEING PLAYED. DO WE ALL HAVE TO WALK ON EGG SHELLS IF WE USE THE WORK BLACK? GOOD GRIEF! GET OVER YOURSELVES! AND I DON'T CARE IF YOUR AFFENDED. FRANKLY. I DON'T WANT TO BE POLITICALLY CORRECT ANYMORE.

Why is it only African-Americans are allowed to play the race card? If some African-American politician made a similar comment, no one would care. But since it was a white person who said it, the NAACP has to freak out.

Honestly, white people aren't the only ones who can be racist.

It seems as if the NAACP is just waiting to take action against anyone they can. I listened to the comments made by Senator Buttars. I also watched a representative from the NAACP show a picture of his grandchild and argue the child is not ugly based off of the comments Buttars made. It was obvious to me that attempts were being made to twist the context of what was said. This particular complaint discredits the NAACP for challenging such a matter, in my opinion. There are serious issues that still exist today, or so I thought. Why would the NAACP waist their resources? If the NAACP cannot find a more substantial problem then maybe society has made a substantial change with regard to equality.

I dont' get fired up often, this one got me!!! I am sick and tired of the victim mentality. Senator Buttars comments were not racially motivated. Let's start by addressing the ones that actually are.. So when a Comedian on the Cable channel BET (Black Entertainment Television) comments on one of us Crackers? Do we get to call for their resignation? I mean give me a break. Ok NAACP, I am going to start a new cable channel called WET (White Entertainment Television) call for me to resign. I DARE YOU!! Seems a little on sided! Stop living your lives as Victims and START LIVING!!!!!

The above comments are really good. The people of NAACP your ancestors would be turning over in their graves knowing that you are now a knit pickin bunch now. I just want to know how this went from a metaphorically comment to a lynching? I was really offended by the picture that that man showed of the hangings. I want him removed for showing that when it had nothing to do with this. Are things so calm now that you have to pick out things to stir? There are more important things to worry about than this. Do you even know what he was talking about to begin with? Come on, your ancestors fought hard for what they believed in not for you to make a mess of it now. QUIT being so sensitive.

Interestingly, last night, Feb. 19/20, in between sleeping with my TV on, I saw that clip played 11 times. The media will not quit stirring the pot, they want an open fight ro display between Buttars and the NAACP. It happened over a week ago! I think Buttars made his apology for a totally misinterpreted comment. "Settled".

This baby is black, I'll tell you. This is a dark, ugly thing," Buttars said. This was in no way Shape or form a racial Comment. He was referring to a THING not a person. Get a life and stop being so dam sensitive. Haven’t we all said something in the middle of an argument that was then twisted and taken not as we said it but how the other person wanted to interpret it. (If you haven’t then evidently you NEVER fight with others and we ALL need to take lessons from you on how to get along)
