I see FEMA is not going to aid Wells, Nv. Figures, they are a small community and can't raise enough ruckus to embarass the fed's. Come on FEMA, those people are counting on you! You don't need to rebuild the old, vacant buildings, but help with the rest. These people ARE America!

I was surprised that they couldn't help with the school. Oh, BTW, was there a bunch of looting and general criminal activity in Wells after the earthquake? No, there wasn't. What's the difference between Wells and New Orleans, besides size??? I'm thinking ungrateful citizens and Wells' "I can take care of myself" attitude.

FEMA, step up and help already!!!

I agree that FEMA should help, but you're right, Dondero. None of us should plan on or assume that the government will take care of us. We need to prepare ourselves to take care of ourselves.

With all do respect (if any is left) our government is only planning on insuring the control of citizens in the event of a natural disaster, not the saftey of. I think Katrina vs. New Orleans says something about that. People should be prepaired to defend/fend for themselves in the event of a natural disaster because FEMA certainly isn't planning to. For the purpose of enlightenment copy/paste this link to see what FEMA is really up to.

My Daughters until recently were going to school at Wells High (They moved about a month before the Quake) I've had opportunities to go to Wells for School activities they were involved in, I've only met Decent people out there, these folks know each other well, they are all friends and Neighbors, and they help each other in time of need. This winter I went to a choir concert at the high school, My car broke down (Bad Starter) it was a very cold night, Nowhere open to get parts, these people took time out of their night to assist me in trying to get the car started to drive back to Wendover (Where We were staying for the night) Gave us a ride to Wendover when attempts failed to start my car, Let my young children sit in their warm cars while we were out there, and all this they did for People they didn't even know, This day and age that kind of person is very rare, But in Wells Nv. they are alive and well. These are the type of people the Government should be chomping at the bit to help..

Sadly insurance for quake damage is near impossible, therefore we are at the mercy of agencies like FEMA for low interest loans. Had that same quake hit the SLC area the results would be horrific, many deaths, injuries and tons of buildings destroyed. FEMA would be scrambling everywhere to help. FEMA should be ashamed of being a part of the American system. These people don't expect handouts, they just need a hand getting back on their feet.

In the case of Katrina there was ample warning, many chose to defy the storm. There is no warning for a quake. As U.S. citizans we are terribly naive of many government agencies and programs such as FEMA & FDIC. When we walk in our bank we see "Insured by FDIC". Thay fail to mention it will be a long time before you'd get your money. We tend to assume these agencies will help us quickly so we can maintain our lives. You know what "assuming" does. They just need access to low interest loans to rebuild, they don't expect free handouts.
