For a brief period, I was able to enjoy FrontRunner. It was relatively convenient to commute to work with an FR station within two-miles to my office, it was less expense per month than driving when gas was greater than $3.50/gallon, but the linkage to UTA bus service to avoid having to walk the two miles was pitiful, and UTA raised the rates.
I changed employment recently. Now, the new FR station I would use is about four miles from my office, gas is considerably cheaper and I can drive for less a month than ride FR and there is no convenient UTA bus service anywhere near my office. UTA promised that the bus route involved in my former employer’s neighborhood would be changed to make it more convenient. It was changed: that bus route was entirely eliminated. Public transportation should be less expense than one’s own car, convenient and trustworthy. If none of the above apply, it is not worth the expense.
I should continue using Frontrunner because I am a tree-hugger and not for merely the economic advantage? Do I look like I’m wearing a clown suit?

I just want to give a shout out to the guy that ran over my dog at full speed without breaking and without stopping. Thanks for leaving my dog outside in the road to be run over again. Luckly enough that I found him before that happened.

They've extended the auto mall road south past Costco, where it now curves and connects to State street. This is good.
Directly across the street at this point, on the east side of State street are some apartments (or condos). Once they opened the new road to/from Costco, State street southbound at this point now "curves" to the right, just before the new street, then curves back again.
This has created a problem, especially to those unfamiliar with the area: While driving southbound, if you're in the left lane you suddenly find cars stopped directly in front of you trying to turn left into the apartments--because of the curve, the left lane is now the left TURN lane! Those in the right lane find themselves darting to the right to avoid people in the left lane darting to the right to avoid the left-turners. And this curve is only 200 feet or so long, then it curves back--Just in time for confused drivers trying to figure out how to turn left into Best Buy. Then THESE cars start blocking access to the left turn lane at 114th south...
WHY the stupid curve?? And at the very least, could someone PAINT THE ROAD in a decent manner so you can see it coming? How about a sign? Better yet, do what's necessary to remove the curve. Someone's going to get hurt, I'm surprised nobody has yet. (that I know of)

As a frequent pedestrian crossing busy streets I had a somewhat comical yet disturbing encounter several days ago. I was in a crosswalk walking the direction of the cars approaching the cross street's right turn lane. One vehicle was still a way away from me and made a turn. However I got close enough to the corner that I noticed a vehicle "rolling" up to the crosswalk. I have learned to NEVER TRUST A ROLLING VEHICLE because of near misses and I value my life. I "freeze" in front of a vehicle that was already stopped as I began to look for the driver's eyes. At the speed the vehicle was going it would have stuck me had I not froze waiting for eye contact!! Then just as the vehicle was about to enter the crosswalk the driver's eyes met mine. I was there for a "while" so the driver's startled reaction was quite amusing. I almost broke out laughing but decided to give a friendly thank you wave instead.
"Funny" as the driver's reaction was... the idea of auto-pedestrian accidents is not. The driver is protected by their vehicle but pedestrians have no such "amour" to absorb an impact and so need to be EXTRA vigilant in their travels.
The saying "arrive alive" necessitates taking a little extra time for common courtesy but it is extremely worth it...

I know this is traffic but it has to do with your automobile.
I know many people in this valley love their "Road Side Assistance" but treat the people that come to help them or to tow their car like dirt.
The stories I've heard the past month from my BF... yes BF (don't cry to hard) are horrible. I can't beleive how some people act. My husband has some jerk up in the Avenues complain for jumping his wifes BMW with his Escalade cause the dingy people didn't want to push it out of the garage to where he could reach to jump her BMW with his tow truck and they refused to move the Escalade. (Rolls Eyes) .....
Another person ran him off the road in their Jetta when he was towing a Accent on the freeway Friday Night. (yes the jerk was on his cell phone heading north bound on i15)
And some drunk chick up a snowbird referring to him as "trash" instead of calling him his name or Mr. He actually called me while he was putting the car on the flatbed & you could hear her yelling at him, it was ridiculous. (great snow skiers we attract here)
And so on so forth.
I went on a few of his drives when I was bored one day and I can't beleive how snotty these people can be. I truelly thought people only acted that way on a phone or internet to customer service reps..... sheesh was I wrong.
Appreciate the people that help you or learn to fix the issues yourself. You pay for the services... you don't pay to treat people like crap.
My BF has been working 4 weeks in a row with no time off. He's on call and has maybe got 4 hours of sleep at 1 time. He has had not had a benefit of a day of since. He didn't even get Thanksgiving Dinner (was called out on a tow before it was done) So when your out with your obnoxious rich families and friends & call your roadside service to bail you out of the snow, tow your drunk *** home, change your tire, unlock your car, jump your battery est...
TREAT THEM WITH RESPECT!

When ever we listen to news reports and hear the accounts of bicycles colliding with vehicles. We usually hear the usual phrase "Share The Road" Nice concept it is green, cool and mcho. I have considered purchasing a bike and joining the crowd. My friends have paid as much as $7,000 for their bikes + outfits etc. I could buy a car or alot of gas for that much.
I generally take the conserative view on things, but I think our legislators should consider making it nessesary for bicyclists to have their bicycles licensed to operate on State highways and roads. They should also have licenses to operate them as well. This would provide for training and rules of the road pertaining to bicycles being operated on the open road. It would provide funding for road expansion IE bike lanes etc. They should also be required to carry insurrance to cover any dammage they could cause to others in the event they caused an accident.
I have twice nearly been the victum of their inadvertant stupidity. Several oncomming bikers traveling single file on the far right (my left) comming at me suddnly bunched up towards the center of the road, an 80,000 pound coal truck comming up from behind steered left to miss the bikes and tried to take me out head on! Brutis and I became very familiar with sign posts, sage brush and other stationary objects on the side of the road as we moved over to escape certin death. Had I been any less alert or a bad dirver it would have been bad for myself and the truck driver.
I often wonderd who would have paid my family for their losses and or my seveir injury. The bikes moved on seemingly un-aware of the disaster they just about caused. The highways were designed for motor vehicles and traffice traveling at speeds much greater than bikes. It is a receipe for certin desaster. The three foot rule is great unless you come up over a hill at 65mph and have a bike in your lane and an oncomming vehicle coming at you. Three feet is simply not there to give. I do give this distance whereever and whenever I can.
A number of times as I traveled to provide service to customers who were in jepordy of loosing product due to a cooling problem I found myself behind several bicylists running two abreast and plugging up the road. Oncomming traffic prevented us from passing them and so we plodded on with cars stacking up behind each other waiting for the opportunity to pass. We traveled this way for quite some time and I caught the bikers taunting me as I finally pass them.
Most likley if there is a problem you will get the ticket. You won't just share you will give it all as you are the one sued out of existance. Yes we will share the road; I do hope someday they will share the cost.

We need someone to monitor the gas prices in Utah. Why are prices as low as $1.97 else where and in Utah we are still paying as much as $2.69 (Beaver County, Minersville)? Is this just greed, or is there another reason we pay these prices. It's bad when you can drive 100 miles round trip and save money.

The issue of 1300 East traffic deserves a lot more examination. The proposed changes specifically for the section of road south of 900 South are going to create a situation that will adversely effect the safety of the local residents which live along this stretch of 1300 East. As it is the speed of the traffic is a major safety hazard. But putting in a center lane (commonly known as a suicide lane) will be the "icing on the cake" regarding residence safety, who already have a huge safety issue, everytime they want to enter thier own driveway, just to get home.
As it is, if you want to enter your driveway, the biggest hazard is the "Tailgaters" that are speeding behind you, wanting to make the light. Because the current lines that are painted and the lane usage by the drivers implies that it is perfectly ok, to drive 40 to 50 miles per hour up this residential road that has residential driveways on both sides of the street.
This road needs to be limited to 1 lane going in each direction with caution signs and speed bumps in the section between 900 South and 1700 South. There needs to be signage that communicates that this is a residential section with driveway access on both sides of the street.
Then the intersections need to have only one direcftion to get the green at a time that is long enough to allow all of the waiting traffic to get through the intersection.
I have friends and relatives that live along this section of 1300 East and I have to say that the only safe way to slow down and turn into a driveway along this section is to risk angry outbursts from drivers that think that this road is the freeway to the University.
This section of 1300 East is a residential neighborhood not a racetrack. A center "Suicide Lane" will make matters worse. Just try to live along this road and see what it is like to have to wait sometimes 15 minutes before you can get out of your driveway. Or try turning into your driveway while going south, when your driveway is on the east side of the street.

I heard a story about a man who went to a a convenience store to get some coffee, gas and a few other items for his evening. When he left the facility, he noticed that his coffee had a real "Irish" taste to it.
Down the road a few blocks he saw a police officer stopped at a business address, and made a tip to the officer about the incident thinking that maybe someone wanted to subdue him or was subduing customers that went to his business.
After investigating, the business employees had unknowingly switched an employee coffee maker with a customer one, since they used the same machine, and thus the customer was unknowingly involved in their festivities for the weekend getaway. But wait, that is not the end.
A business supervisor heard of the incident and dismissed all the employees involved, under the justification that drinking on the job is illegal. I am just wondering how many people before the man that reported it, may have been anhebriated or worse, traveled down the highway and were overcome with the effects of drinking. Those convenience store employees need a wake up call. And for kickers, their business sells gas too.
Public Indecency, or Public Display of affection? You be the judge.
Don't Drink and Drive, and have a safe Holiday Season.

Looking at the report that Fox gave us I have followed a standard outline here for our blogging community to see in order to see what is a outline of the reports our dedicated reporters go through to complete some of these reports.
A general report was given by the news personnel on the incident at the identified location.
The following data is a good means of closing such an event in respects to the families and those involved.
Aircraft type______________ Fuel on board_______(hours/minutes)
ETD (estimated time of departure)___________
ETE (estimated time enroute)_______________
ETA (estimated time of arrival)_______________
Departure Station_________ Emergency equipment on board______
(this is a fill in section on most flight plans)
Arrival Station____________(destination)
Persons on board_________
By looking at the geographical location of the incident, I think that there is a possibility that is was a wind related element, having seen yesterdays forecast, an increase in canyon winds updrafts, and downdrafts may have been taking place, as well as the afternoon temperature increases that occur daily, increasing some winds at those altitudes.
Most aircraft that are of foreign nature or arrive in the valley area for other locations, or departure stations, may not have the geographically preferred survival equipment since there are more than one different type. The different classifications of aircraft survival equipment are as follows:
Mountainous
Arctic
Maritime
Polar
Jungle
Desert
For instance is n aircraft contained Jungle survival equipment you could hypothesize it is from a different regional area than the Valley.
If I were the investigator, I would look to the departure stations meteorological offices for details on local, and received weather reports by the flight crew personnel, unless it was a solo flight as applicable. Canyon winds are a relatively common element in mountainous terrains, including in weather change cycles as a normal occurrence.
Mountainous terrains create a unique handling characteristic of all aircraft in the light aircraft classification.
A precautionary measure that I have seen taken in my career, is that fuel samples at departure stations should be taken as well as from the aircraft accident site if they exist or have not burned in a spark or ignition situation. Examination of fuel tank integrity, and fuel line integrity are also a key element when topics like mechanical error arise. It is not uncommon for used aircraft or older model aircraft to have rust in their fuel lines, if regular maintenance inspections do not take place by owner/operators, which can alter fuel and handing characteristics in these events.
Rust has also been found in aircraft fuel tanks and fuselage areas on the actual surface versus floating in fuel mixtures, or in line feeds and valves, which can accumulate or give operator a sign that such maintenance is needed before an accident or incident occurs.
The fuel types of an aircraft vary in the light aircraft classification also, Low lead, JP-5, and Jet A-1are all used in aircraft under the light category classification, although not available at all munincipal, private, or alternate route airports and airfield locations. The likelyhood of this being a VFR accidnet due to mountain or canyon winds would not be a surprise considering reports of mountain snow, and frontal events that have occurred in a 48-72 hour time frame.
Flying is still the safest mode of transportation, and will be in the future if the reports and information are available as timely as Kerri, and Dan provided. Thanks Guys.

So I have been taking the Legacy highway love it very much. But what I do not like is the people who don't obey the speed limit. I have been driving on there only twice. It really upsets me I go 60 just to not upset people. But they still get upset so, I turn on my hazards so, that they can get over the other lane. I was in the slow lane it really irate me that people don't obey the speed limit. They especially said on the news and the people who said it was okay, to put the road there that it is the speed limit to go 55. People were going at least more than that on the Legacy highway. I don't know how fast but, I'm pretty sure it was faster than 55. I was going 60 just to not let them get mad at me but, they still did get mad at me. Is it or, is not 55 mph? What can I do to avoid this or, is it faster than 55 on Legacy Highway?

Motorist, bicyclist and pedestrians at some point all share the same road. I do alot of walking and the two problems that I face on a daily basis is nearly getting hit by motorist as I attemp to cross the street with the walk sign at an intersection or by bicyclist on the sidewalk. It would be nice If there were more bike lanes so we can get them a safe place to ride other than the sidewalks and motorist when you are making right turns at intersections watch for the pedestrians that maybe steping off the curb with the walk sign. Pedestrians also need to not try and cross with the don't walk sign. Then maybe we can all share the road a little safer

I travel 90th south from the freeway to 1300 West to get to work. Now, I don't remember exactly when I first saw the 'road construction ahead' signs, but I swear it was less than 3 weeks ago. So I've been taking the 72nd South exit and backtracking to work, expecting 90th to be messed up until Memorial Day...
Yesterday the wife wanted me to stop at K-mart on the way home. So from 7800 South, down 1300 West I went, bobbing and weaving around the same bunch of guys and the same bunch of holes that they've been digging up for several months now, and finally I get to K-mart. When I left, I was planning on continuing up 1300 West to 106th South, but traffic wasn't all that bad, so I just went down 90th---and much to my amazement, the new pavement is finished!! They refinished 5 lanes and shoulders, edge to edge, for almost a full mile from 1300 West to 700 West, and had it completely finished in less than a month! (well, I think less than a month, like I said I'm not sure exactly when they started, but it wasn't long ago!) And I'm pretty sure they dug up all the old road, they didn't just drop new tar & chips over the old asphalt.
I don't know the name of the company doing the work, but I just want to offer them my kudos for a job well done. You guys should offer classes to other road construction companies.
And high marks to whoever hired these guys. You AlL deserve a bonus.
As for whoever's still digging holes in 1300 West, I hope you hurry and find that gold or oil you're looking for...

I must say that the drivers here are rude, pushy, selfish, stupid, I could go on and on. I'm not originally from here so I can pick out the locals pretty easy, because ninety percent of them do not know how to drive and they think that they are the only ones on the road. This is sad but true. So, I made a little list of Utah Rulz of the road for those of you who are not local and need a little advice.
1. Utahns do not know what a MERGE Sign means, they do not know how to MERGE into traffic nor slow down or speed up for MERGing traffic. Always be on the lookout for the idiot who is going to speed up at the last minute when there is four feet of room between you and the cement barrier and come barreling past you. Oh yeah, they will give YOU a dirty look.
2. Utahns do not understand that turn signals are meant to let people around and behind them know which direction they are going. They think you are a mind reader. Remember that.
3. Red and Green traffic lights are meaningless to these people. When the light turns green expect the person in front of you to gawk at the light for at least ten seconds, before SLOWLY moving forward. When the light turns red, expect at least five cars to run it as QUICKLY as possible. Also, the light may have turned green for you, but be careful, those freaks running the red light think they are yet again, the only ones on the road.
4. Speed limit signs might as well not exist, no one, and I mean NO ONE abides by them. Your always going to be driving to slow for the person behind you, even if you are speeding ten miles over, usually to keep from being run over by one of the many useless SUV's on the road. I say useless because there are a status quo thing, the mountains are just...there.
5. Utahns do not care about pedestrians, if you are crossing the road on foot, crosswalk or not, keep your eyes and ears tuned for the reckless driver, after all they are in a hurry and 20 more seconds is just too long to wait.
6. Utahns also think they can eat, text, talk on the cell phone, apply eye make-up, and read the paper while driving. Watch out for these types, they are everywhere. They just don't want to wake up an extra ten minutes in the morning to do above said tasks. Funny that is about how long it would take to do each of them. But, Utahns are also always in a hurry.
And no matter how good of a driver you are, they don't know that. If they foul up and almost hit you, it's always going to be your fault, I know it isn't, but they cannot admit they do not know how to drive.

I was saddened by your news story about the pedestrians killed by the driver of a vechicle who ignored the driving regulation regarding yielding the right of way. Here in Provo, in the area I live, we have a huge problem involving the same thing.
In an effort to increase public awareness of this problem the fine police department we have in Provo setup a sting operation. Last Friday they spent about three hours dressed as ordinary people crossing the street in designated crosswalks. They conducted this sting on Center Street between 500 W. and 900 W. They took video of this sting in progress.
There were alot of surprised drivers. As a pedestian myself in the area, I am very aware of the risks involved in crossing this street. So I would like to say kudos to our police force. I hope they were successful in increasing the awareness of afew drivers.
