Ok, so Utah just passed a law making it a felony to abuse pets.

Why are we then turning around and killing them daily for being homeless.

This is crazy!

We must end kill shelters, once and for all.

Please adopt from a kill shelter first!

Good point. Perhaps we should euthanize homeless humans as well. After all we are all animals. The truth is, we as humans create problems and then create others to remedy the original. It's common amongst those that believe in a "higher power", especially Christians, that we, as humans, are somehow worth more than other forms of life. The truth is that we are animals and like a cancer on the world. We are not a symbiotic species, but parasites that take and rarely give back.

I did adopt two 7 week old kittens ... two years ago. They are healthy, indoor cats.

I love animals, don't get me wrong, I have two cats and three guinea pigs. But what are we to do with all the unwanted animals not given a home?

Should they drop them off at your place Codro??

I feel sorry for them just as much as the next person, but when there's no place to go, there's no place to go.

There are places to go ...... Landlords say no!
Far too often the gift of life has been reduced to dollars! If you can't clearly see it is about dollars you are blind.

That is the magic of a double standard...

It is only wrong if you do something, If I do something it is different...

"Double Standards" are the Root of many problems facing our society today...

Got enough money, anything is for sale... Mens souls are cheap and moral integrity is even cheaper!

Dracco, we may be bilogically all animals but most any culture on earth recognizes the difference between humans and animals as being related to spiritual/moral difference. When a dog kills another dog it is not murder, they r just doing what animals do. But humans must make choices. When we kill it is called murder. Everyday I must chose between acting out of my purely bilogical animal instincts or choosing to be a "spiritual animal". Every time I see a woman I can obey my urge or choose to respect. My dog never considers such things. Darwinian teaching has permeated our culture and it sucks.

I find it interesting that animal behaviorist have been able to work with those dogs to not be killers all they needed was understanding
and respect with a little guidance. I would imagine more people kill people than dogs kill dogs. You must be mormon you think you are superior to life. Oh and having to control your behavior....your just messed up!

I am a pet owner and my pets are fixed so that they cant reproduce... for that matter so am I I did that becuase I am a responsible Adult..... so maybe we euthenize bad pet owners and Eat their pets..... that would solve two problems.. oh.. heres one.. jail the felony animal abusers and then sustain their diets off of excess animals in the Kill shelters till the populations of both dwindle.... Fact is we need to raise responsible children to make responsible adults... then maybe the problem will fix itself.... until then we are only going to have Thomas Payne {satyrical} solutioins to a stupid problem....

I believe we as humans have been given dominion over all living creatures which involves some responsibility. I don't think killing them is the answer. But we as responsible people with
creative thinking brains need to stop the bleeding somehow. This is a human problem that has been left for animals to work out themselves
and they can't

Landlords? Really? You think that we have allllll these animals on the streets and in shelters because a landlord said no cats?

If you think this is the case, you're the blind man.

Come on, do you really think that sooooo many people move out of pet friendly places into non-pet-friendly places each day???? I really doubt that.

hapydog,

I do not believe in "spiritualism". We do put down dogs for "murdering" other dogs in this country. WE ARE ANIMALS! Oh and see hinduism.

I've been around the block and see just fine.
It just seems everyone I've talked to about adopting has said they would if they could but the landlord says no. Are you blind...that is happening. I'm not saying that is the total answer but if we opened up a little maybe we could find somemore answers. Again for the landlords it comes down to dollars. We've put a price on the gift of life.

Thats just like seeing your 5 year olds drawing and saying Thats Great... its not their landlords saying no.. its a polite way of saying I agree with you about the problem but im not messing up my home for an animal I dont want. Oh and how did cats survive before we domesticated them.. before we had homes... ummmmm they can truely take care of themselves just not in a city ... put them in the wild and instincts will take over and there ya go.. un domesticated cats.. im not sayin that is the answer im saying stop buying pets you dont intend on taking care of.. treat them like your kids.. (Dont Forget them in cars though)... you dont take a job that conflicts with your kid schedule so why take pets you dont intend on caring for until its natural death... thats the problem with homeless pets.. my kids have 2 iguanas.....they can live for up to 30 years.... and ya know what.. they are learning this lesson the long way.. they wanted it they got it and they are keeping it... just the way it is... but I am more concerned about the Human condition than its counterpart the Pet condition.

I've done plenty apartment hunting in Utah and California, plenty of friends have as well, and I and they have had no problem finding pet friendly places. There are plenty of places out there.

Having more pet friendly lanlords isn't going to put much of a dent in this problem.

So, what's your address?

Codro; Me Mormon? Look beyond your stereo type. Too much time in this valley may give us tunnel vision. I'm here to discuss. I'll try to hear you even if I don't agree.
Our belief systems and assumptions need to be challenged, even the great darwin. We all need to see the logical outcomes of our belief systems. So when I claim that there is difference between animals/humans it is not to abuse animals but to preserve a natural/sacred order. Non-religious people should be concerned about this. Without this order the future Hitlers of the world will use genetic science to create androids, part human manipulations, (see Bladerunner) etc. So all these issues are more than just a religious taboo.

As Leon Russell would put it "I've been so many places in my life time" I'm 56 this Nov. I've seen my country go through a lot of changes. I personally while being a guitar player song writer for 38 of those years. I supported my music by becoming an optician, graduated top of my class, went on to manage 5 Dr.' offices and one super store. Before my forced retirement. I'm the street version of House. I have sciatic palsy. The limp and the pain just a little different medication I've been taking for 35 yrs. My point I hear a lot of angry young people on this site and I think a lot of them haven't been through or done enough to be that angry. But I am personally unhappy when I get cursed at and told what it is like by some kid. Not that young people don't have valid contribution. The name calling and stuff I can do without.
