Blog Stalkers -- by Douglas ChickBlogging is short for web logging. Blogging is a forum where people post personal thoughts, web links, and opinion…but mostly opinion…a lot of opinion. If you are reading this, you are reading my blog. Once a blog is posted, it is up to its readers to qualify it as truth, lie, or opinion. There is generally a healthy exchanged of idea’s, sometimes followed by a somewhat heated debate of ideology, and in many cases it becomes personal.

Blog Stalkers, or blog bullies are bloggers that attack every post, fill the blog with page after page of almost incoherent ranting, (mostly angry rants regarding liberals or Bush/Cheney being Satan) and frightening away others from posting their opinions because they don’t want to be attacked, or worse…

Fox has 31 blogs in 31 cities. I have visited and read the posts of all 31. And in every city there is always one or two “Blog Stalkers” that control the mood of these websites, beat down its readers, and bully their opinions until their victims do not want to post anymore. Most blog stalkers or blog bullies use pictures of the flag, an eagle or a gun as their icon. I spoke with one Fox reporter who told me that they have ejected many blog stalkers, but only to see them return under yet another anyonomous name.

What has been your experiences with Blog Stalkers?

Sticks and Stones my friends... I don't put "too" much into blog stalkers. I think these cyber jerks are jerks in real life too and bully exactly the same out in the real world...

My Advice, Don't let people get too you! That is exactly what they are trying to do. Incite fear, bully and push you down. Sure they may piss you off but you are in control of your response...

Ignore them...

Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me... Unless those words are that they will attain some sticks and stones to break my bones than that is another matter entirely... That is trodding down the path towards assault... Which will land someone in jail.

I actually see it a little differently than you do, Douglas. I think there are people that have strong opinions about certain issues. Some people have an opposing opinion that is equally strong. When these individuals meet head-to-head in a discussion, it will usually end with someone coming out ahead in the debate. Sometimes, rather than conceding or withdrawing from the debate, the loser (if you will), uses personal attacks, where valid points or counter arguments do not exist. Where it goes from their depends on the victim's ability to deal with the sore-loser.

I've made people angry in these forums because I challenge their claims directly and they can't righteously defend their stance without reverting to name calling. Of course by then, I am frustrated and trading insults with them. This happens in any forum.

After a long absence from blogging, I stopped in at MyFoxUtah to catch up on what some of my old friends were writing and saw your blog. I agree with much of what you say with some exception9S0. The Blog Stalker(s) you reference do exist, in fact, I myself may have been such a blog stalker once upon a time. I am someone who has tasted the sweet elixir of bloggers blood. In fact I still somewhat salivate over the thought of killing another screen name.

I can still remember many of the screen names that went away soon after they caught my interest. I would watch them for a while, letting them write stupid things without comment, then when I sensed the moment was ripe I would hit them with emotional body blows that I knew were sticking in the recipients minds long after the blog session was over. I would use comments they had already written as sharp daggers that cut in ways only a person own words can. It would usually take a few days but after a while that screen name would stop posting. And frankly it was this type of victory over another blogger that can get in your blood. Heck I was walking around through out the day laughing to myself over what I had done and said that day to some bloger that I thought was sooooo clever.

But no more....probabbbbably?

Akiame,

It isn't always a matter of having a choice in how to respond any more than a hemopheliac has a choice in how to respond to aspirin therapy.

When a person takes a deliberate libelous swipe at someone knowing it will cause harm, that goes beyond mere sticks and stones.

Douglas,

Good topic! However, might I offer a different point of view on one aspect? Granted, a reader has say over how they interpret something as being truth, lie or opinion ... the determing factor is almost always documentation and proof. Believing or not believing doesn't automatically mean what is being discussed is truth or factual.

I guess I was raised w/ the internet bullies and grew a tough shell when it comes to peoples objective opinions. Or... and I know how to delete their incoherant rants.
From age 10 on the internet to 24.... I've seen tons of bullies including having people threaten to track me down and "beat the EDIT out of me." Tend to be a lot of no shows.
Like everyone says "fighting online is like being in the Special Olympics either way....... yada yada yada"

People will TRY to rouse a response out of you...

Take kids for example:

"Mommy" the kid says.

"what" mommy answers.

"Nothing" the kid says.

"Mommy" the kid says again.

Mommy doesn't answer this time because she knows the kid is just bugging her for attention.

So the kid keeps saying "mommy" until she finally answers. Then the kid says "Nothing"

I think the blog stalkers are just biting for attention. They say things just to get people riled up...

I will even say things sarcastically just to rouse a response... Just don't develop an ulcer from stress putting too much stalk into those types of people... That is exactly what they are going for!!! Don't give it to them...

Akiame,
That reminds me of a joke my son came up with when he was seven ...

Knock, knock

Who's there?

Nobody, just kidding.
