An Atheist in an ocean of Theists

I am glad to see that Texas courts were fair with the FLDS people.  While it is unfortunate that some victims of a crime may go unpunished, the rights of everyone involved were preserved.

I know it is hard for some people to swallow, but over-zealous, self-righteous pseudo-justice is not the answer.  We all have rights, including criminals.  You can't just uproot and entire community and violate their search and seizure rights,  based on one reported incident by a person that wasn't even telling the entire truth.   GOOD FOR THE TEXAS JUDICIAL SYSTEM!

In my opinion, it was just one Texas Baptist Church led effort to pick on the FLDS Church.  After all, you can't have those heathens gettin away with something their actually constitutionally protected in doing.

Criminals are the only ones with rights!

What about the Rights of the Victim?

The criminal that "Decided" to overpower their victims rights, and society that honors the criminals rights even though they took it upon them selves to deny the victim their rights...

There is no justice... for victims.

Justice is blind... All she sees is Gold.

What a civilized (Lawful) society we live in...

“While it is unfortunate that some victims of a crime may go unpunished…”

Why do you want to punish the victims? Haven’t they been through enough already? The perpetrators are the ones who should be punished.

Yea the Texas courts sent a great message to all the cults out there...

"Lock down your members, mentally and physically and you can rape all the under aged girls that you want..."

It is just like the Judge that ruled in this Child Rape case some years ago: "She looked old enough..." The JUDGE Said. Like it is ok to rape someone if they are old enough.

That is Grotesque, Monstrous, hideous unconscionable!!! I am ashamed of the justice system and the part of our society that condones such monstrous violations to living human beings...

Texas deserves credit for trying to see whats happening there. But I could see them being on shaky ground, legally. The courts have given the order in accordance to law. I am sorry for the children, as things will likely be only worse. The Polig's have been playing this game a long time, they're good at it.

Akaime, Again should we raid your home because your neighbor committed a crime? You can't ditch due process and everyone's rights to catch the bad guy.

I think Polygamy should be legal. I just don't think children under 16 should be getting hitched. 16 in my opinion should be the legal age of consent. It works good in many cultures. We are actually one of the very few that have the age at 18. I also think if you can serve your country in war at 17 you should be able to make all the decisions of an adult, to include smoking & drinking. That's my opinion. Beyond that, There is nothing wrong with polygamy.

I don't care how many wives someone has...

But

I am NOT PAYING EXTRA TAXES because they can't afford to take care of their 200 children because of the "life style" they have chosen...

You already do that for all the traditional families that can't take care of their kids. It doesn't matter how many sires their are. These women would individual have kids as well. That's the beauty of their communities, they take care of themselves. It's the traditional families that're having problems making ends meat. ;-)

Isn't it interesting how much Welfare FLDS people receive compared to "Traditional" Families...

Well more power too them!!! Work the system!

It would be about the same as an LDS family with 5-10 kids. So, if each wife were to marry a single male and they were to have 5 kids each it would be more. ;-) I don't see their families as more of a strain than a large family of any faith or lack thereof.

True...

I just think it is wacky that society has to pay for people with 15+ kids or so that are on welfare... I didn't get the pleasurable benefits of sexual intercourse so I don't see why I have to pay for their kids... That is why I use condoms...

Whatever religion, or non religion they are apart of is inconsequential... You have to be able to provide for your children. I am willing to lend aid to a certain extent, my hypocrisy goes only so far... ~L~O~L~

I totally agree with that. I think they should force people to work for public assistance. I don't mean find a job, I mean work for the State.

If everyone takes a little from Sam, there won't be anything left for Sam to give... If everyone Gives a little to Sam, Sam will have plenty to give... Sam being everyone in our society in general.

It only takes a little... to get a little.

I'm sorry, but the last time I checked it was a crime for a 30 or 40 or older man to marry a young girl under the age of 18. Not to mention all of the laws they are breaking by practicing polyagomy. I am disgusted that they allowed those innocent children to be returned to that lifestyle, they really could have saved alot of children, instead they have condemned them to an even crueler life... No doubt now that this community is aware that they are being watched they will lock down even tighter...

I am an Oregonian Liberal Atheist, living in Utah. I am passionate about my freedom. I am a military veteran that defended it for nearly 14 years of my life. I believe the 1st Amendment, among other rights are violated in the country everyday through unconstitutional legislation and especially in this state. I have made it my ambition to speak out against the oppression many of us face in this country because of those violations. If I only enlighten one mind to the truth... My work is complete.
