An Atheist in an ocean of Theists

John McCain is a showman to be sure.  From his ridiculous choice in VP's to his latest political stunt with the "bail out" discussion.   McCain is a joke.  He cares more about his own career than he does the people.

It has become evident that the man knows nothing about the economy of the country, because he doesn't even admit we even have a problem.  Additionally the man doesn't have a clue when it comes to the Iraq conflict.  All these idiots that say "The Surge Worked" aren't amongst the families that are still losing their loved ones.

What I find interesting is that according to the  Department of State, McCain isn't even eligible for the seat.

rifle6--what are you talking about??

as for the McCain, he is a career politician. as such, he is duplicitous, self interested, and out of touch with the people he represents.

i am willing to concede that the vast majority of politics is self interested, however, the politician must be in touch with his constituents, or he will prove to be either inert in the office, or someone like our current president, who governs arbitrarily and without scruple. the war in Iraq is no exception to this. even from a just war standpoint, where war may be morally permissible, the war in Iraq is wrong.

my argument is that our current president is not democratic—he seems to have no concept thereof. he does not care about any of the measures to ensure that his power is checked, or that ethics govern his politics. he does not care about the people that put him in office. he does not care about the people in Iraq, who we pretend to serve.

rifle6--i would think that someone who is former millitary would have a more objective attitude than you do. as you likely have been made aware, war is hell. for someone who has experienced this hell firsthand and has seen what it does to a society, to an economy, and to a government; it surprises me that you would be so quick to say ‘dulce et decorum est a pro patria moria.’

as for the war in Iraq, it is illegal. aside from being an illegal war, it is morally wrong—even when viewed from just war criteria. our current president does not care about the plight of Iraq, just like he does not care about his constituents. his motives for going to war were those of self interest, or at least those of his cronies, who have stakes in oil and privately owned security firms.

his aims for this war have shifted from retaliation in 2001 and early 2002, to freedom in Iraq in 2004, to stabilization in 2006. he stood on a battleship in the Persian Gulf in 2005 declaring ‘mission accomplished,’ and yet, we still need to send over more troops. the only thing that has remained consistent thru all of this is the role that private security companies like Halliburton play. while soldiers march off to fight and die, Bush’s cronies are getting rich. he has handed us a line about the need to fight terrorism (which is completely counterproductive. it’s like trying to put out a fire with gasoline) to justify his actions.

if our current president cared about democracy and freedom like he says he does, we would not have gone over there in the first place. he would have establish

if our current president cared about democracy and freedom like he says he does, we would not have gone over there in the first place. he would have established measures to promote democracy here at home. he would have employed diplomatic efforts to address a growing threat, rather than lethal force. he would have submitted this Iraq war to a democratic process, and allowed Congress to do its due diligence, rather than back them into a corner like he did.

this is from obamas own hand, from his book, THAT I HAVE READ

this is his veiws, his life. his choice.

how could a reasonable AMERICAN VOTE FOR THIS TERRORIST???????

From Dreams of My Father:

a.. "I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, whenI began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites."
b.. "I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance andanimosity against my mother's race."
c.. "There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure ofhimself maybe, and white."
d.. "it remained necessary to prove which side your were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strikeout and name names."
e.. "I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak tomy own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa, that I had packed all the attributes I sought in myself, the attributes ofMartin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela."
Here's the clincher (grab onto something when you read this) from Audacity ofHope:

a.. "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in anugly direction."

I am an Oregonian Liberal Atheist, living in Utah. I am passionate about my freedom. I am a military veteran that defended it for nearly 14 years of my life. I believe the 1st Amendment, among other rights are violated in the country everyday through unconstitutional legislation and especially in this state. I have made it my ambition to speak out against the oppression many of us face in this country because of those violations. If I only enlighten one mind to the truth... My work is complete.
